Wreck-It Ralph Inspired Vanellope Cupcakes

Vanellope cupcakes

Last weekend, I asked the Mouse Ears Mom Facebook Friends what Disney character they would like to see me attempt to make as a character-inspired cupcake.  The requests were fantastic.  One request was a “Wreck-It Ralph” inspired cupcake.  Vanellope Von Schwetz, the adorable star character of the game Candy Crush in the film “Wreck-It Ralph”, has the perfect candy sprinkled hair. I just had to give it a try.

If you’ve follow my blog, then you know that my skill level for decorating cupcakes is that of a first grader.  However, it doesn’t stop me from having fun and if my kids recognize what I’m doing, then I feel I have a winner.  This cupcake isn’t one of my best, but Gavin instantly recognized it as Vanellope’s hair, so that’s why I’m sharing it today. Here’s a closer look at her hair and how I made the cupcake.

To create her licorice hair tie I used a strand of Twizzler Pull and Peel candy.

After icing the top of the cupcake black I added the licorice tie and then filled it in with black icing.

I used a star tip for the wave in the hair and sprinkled it with miniature M&M pieces and ice cream sprinkles.  That’s it!

As you can see, the cupcake is simple to make and I think it’s a perfect fit for a “Wreck-It Ralph” party.  If you’re looking for a fun cupcake to make for a Disney Infinity themed birthday party, I think Vanellope would be a great fit too!  Seriously, how can you go wrong with sprinkles?

Picnicking With Mickey Cupcakes

Picnic mickey

Are you planning a family picnic this Memorial Day Weekend? Add a little Disney magic to a simple cupcake by adding these easy-to-make Mickey Mouse chocolates.

Mickey chocolates

To make these chocolates you’ll need chocolate candy melts, wax paper, a microwave safe squeeze bottle or microwave safe disposable decorating bags and my Mickey Mouse template.

Below is the template that I created with the use of a Mickey Mouse craft punch.  Print it out to get started!

Using the template underneath a sheet of wax paper makes creating Mickey Mouse candies a breeze.  Simply melt the chocolate in the squeeze bottle or in your decorating bag, snip a small hole at the end and then cover the blue Mickey heads with chocolate. Once the chocolate has cooled, flip them over and your miniature Mickeys are ready to magically transform your cupcakes!

One important tip to make your candies fabulous ~ do not try to trace the Mickey head to create the candy.  This will give the candies bubbles on the back side, instead of the smooth finish you see on the candies pictured on the blue plate.  Instead, apply chocolate in the center of the large circle until it fills the entire circle.  Follow with adding the ears by applying chocolate again in the center of one ear until it fills the ear and then complete Mickey by adding his last ear.  Talk about easy!

It’s a Jolly Oscar Night With Mary {Free Printable for Personal Use}

Mary Poppins cakesIt’s Oscar’s Night!

Don’t you just love the Oscars?  All the glitz and glam is so easy to get wrapped up in.  The next thing I know, I’m up until midnight making sure I’ve seen the last award handed out.

Once upon a time, before babies arrived,  I attended Oscar parties.  They were so much fun and I truly miss going!  This year I decided to throw my own little party for just our family.  I don’t know about you, but my favorite movie of the year was Saving Mr. Banks.  I wish it was nominated for more awards other than Best Original Score, but regardless I decided to theme some snacks for the evening after the film, Mary Poppins.

This is honestly the most impromptu “party”, having just decided to put it together this morning.  The kids and I watched Mary Poppins last night and during the animated sequence Miss Mary ordered some Raspberry Ice, cakes and tea.  So this morning Victoria and I ran to the store and we found these adorable Strawberry Shortcakes and also some Black Raspberry Sparkling Ice.  Then I jumped on-line and found this website with “Free Mary Poppins clip art”.  I DO NOT recommend using the clip art from this site on items you make for sale because I’m certain they are copyrighted to Disney.  However, for our impromptu party they worked perfectly.

If you loved Saving Mr. Banks and want to throw your own Poppins Oscar party tonight, you can use the clip art in the fashion that I did. Here is a PDF named Mary.  It’s of the penguins and Mary Poppins flying.  It’s sized for the straw and cupcake decorations.

Mary

I hope you all enjoy the Oscars tonight and if you have snow headed your way, I hope you’re at home warm and safe.  Maybe if Elsa wins her Oscar for Frozen she’ll stop this crazy snow!

Kids Activity: Disney’s Frozen-Inspired Olaf the Snowman Cupcakes

Olaf Snowmarshman cupcake

Olaf Welcomes Winter

Last night the weather was a mess in Pennsylvania.  We started to get rain in the afternoon which led to sleet and then snow.  Needless to say, we decided to stay inside where it was cozy and warm.  The kids love watching the snow fall outside and at the sight of a single snowflake they ask if they could build a snowman.  Even if there isn’t enough snow to cover the ground yet, the kids want to rush outside to get to work.  As a wonderfully warm alternative the kids and I made snowmen inside!

My six-year-old little man, Gavin and I went on a movie date to see Disney’s Frozen on opening day. If you haven’t seen it yet, there’s an adorable little snowman in the film named Olaf.  Warning, he’s going to steal your heart! Olaf was Gavin’s absolute favorite character in the movie, so of course he wanted to build an Olaf snowman.  He was so excited about the idea of a cupcake marshmallow snowman, that he completely forgot about the snow falling outside!

So, I made some white cake cupcakes.

Cupcake Snowmen 005Then I set up a snowman making station on our dining room table.

Cupcake Snowmen 013It included miniature marshmallows for his feet. We used cupcakes for his snow ball bottom.  Regular sized marshmallows for his belly and oversized marshmallows for his adorable oversized head.  I had some leftover eyes from our Monster cupcake making station.  Check out our Monsters Inc. Inspired cupcakes here:

We also used pretzel sticks for arms and hair and left over Halloween candy corn for noses.  To stick everything together we used icing and pretzel sticks.

Gavin got straight to work.  He absolutely loved making his Olaf.

Victoria promptly began eating snowman building parts and had no interest in building.

This is Gavin’s Olaf inspired cupcake before he was partially eaten.

Cupcake Snowmen 033

Marshmallow Cupcake Olaf was quite a sugary snack so I limited Gavin to only eat half of his Olaf.  My Olaf Inspired cupcake is at the top of the page.  Neither of our Olaf cupcakes look exactly like they walked off the movie screen, but we sure giggled as we challenged his marshmallow pieces to stay together.

If you’re having yucky weather this weekend, but wish you could be outside playing, consider making an indoor Olaf snowman with your kids.  Just mention the idea to your children and I promise their eyes will light up like magic and Olaf induced giggling will soon follow.

If you haven’t seen Disney’s Frozen yet, you can check out my review here:
